Search

Search that understands how Iraq writes.

Search Iraq’s places, streets and areas in Arabic or English with spelling variants folded together, and turn any point into the address people actually use: district, nearest street, nearest landmark and a plus code.

  • 5 in early access
Places, streets, addresses and plus codes, spelled the way people spell them.

Spellings folded together

الكراده finds الكرادة: ة and ه, ى and ي, the forms of hamza and the tatweel are matched as people type them.

Addresses people recognise

Reverse geocoding answers with the district, the nearest named street and the nearest landmark: a sentence a driver can follow.

A code for every door

Where there is no house number, a plus code names the exact spot, and search accepts it like any address.

Search & geocoding

Places, streets and administrative areas by name in Arabic or English, ranked near a point when you pass one. Each result has its kind, its names and its coordinates.

GET /v1/locations/geocode
Find places, streets and areas by name.
Early access

Places nearby

Places near a point, inside the map’s view, or along a route with the detour each one costs: for “fuel on the way” and “what is near this listing”.

GET /v1/poi/nearby
Places around a point, in view, or along a route.
  • Reverse geocoding

    Early access

Coordinates in, the address people use out: city, district, subdistrict, the nearest named street, and the nearest landmark with its distance.

    GET /v1/locations/reverse-geocode
  • Plus codes

    Early access

Every point has a plus code: reverse geocoding returns it and search accepts it, so a door without a house number still has an address.

    GET /v1/locations/geocode?q=7V9W…
  • Tilequery

    Early access

The map’s features at or near a point (roads, buildings, land use), in the same shape as Mapbox’s Tilequery API.

    GET /v1/tilequery/{point}

We run our own app on it.

Tareky Maps uses these APIs every day. Every screen here is a screenshot of the app itself, refreshed from the running code.

Questions

How much can I search?

More than 40,000 places, plus Iraq’s streets and administrative areas. Place density is highest in Baghdad and thinner elsewhere.

Are results ranked near my users?

Pass a point and results are ranked near it; without one, they are ranked for all of Iraq.

Do results include Kurdish names?

Where the data has a Kurdish name, a result carries it beside the Arabic and English ones.
